In March, Shannon Creaney, the Victorian monitoring coordinator of Birdlife Australia's Birds on Farms programme, spoke at a Regenerating Farms event.

Shannon talked about the benefits of birds on farms, birds found on the Mornington Peninsula and how the Birds on Farms programme works with landholders so they can learn more about birds and their habitats on private rural properties.

Information gathered aids in the conservation of habitat and therefore the protection of woodland birds.

The long-term objective of the project is to support landholders and local communities to enhance populations and diversity of woodland birds and their habitats within a landscape that continues to be agriculturally productive and profitable.

The programme pairs experienced birdwatchers with interested landholders so that the three monthly surveys can be useful and inspiring.

Birds on Farms assists rural landholders to identify, appreciate and manage birds and their habitats on their properties.
